Now and then you get a message from a pet sales. One of my good friends who
only wanted to hunt and fish, lost his lab. He has had labs for years. I
convinced him to take one of our shepherds. It was a bitch, Dinah, we were
going to show, but I wanted Jim to know what a German shepherd is like. This
is
a conformation bitch, not a working line. Like many of our dogs. All you
need do is ask them to do what they can do.
Hello Ev & Tedi. I think there is a possibility that the greatest asset
that your line of dogs has is one that you don't really care about. Dinah is
absolutely the best gun dog I've ever hunted behind. She knows what the gun
is
for, and she knows that it is her job to put game in front of it; she works
hard and never strays out of range. She has initiative and acumen that
usually take years (at least with my other dogs) to develop. You should see
her
sweep a copse, she is top-notch. You wouldn't recognize your dainty little
girl anymore, especially if you saw her catch a rabbit, gut it and skin it.
She is a top-of-the-line predator, and if all human life died on this planet,
it wouldn't slow her down a bit; she would fend for herself just fine and
certainly wouldn't starve to death like most other pooches. We haven't done
any
bird hunting, but that's next on my agenda for her next year; I bet she will
excel at that too.
