I think that sometimes people will call a very dark Bi a solid black, when it
isn't. Maybe that is why some will insist that they had 2 blacks produce a blk
and tan? Cynthia

Ed......the bottom line is a black bred to a black can only produce blacks. I
breed blacks. It is just that simple. There really is no need for any huge
explanation. It is probably the easiest color gene combination to explain. Try
explained to a person just getting into breeding how two sables can produce a
whole litter of black and tans. We know why......because sable is dominant but
it is it an interesting subject anyway. I find it interesting that a solid
white dog can produce solid blacks. In my opinion a white dog should only be
bred to another white dog but people do breed them to other colors and get B/T,
sables and even blacks. That is another reason that people need to research
pedigrees so they do not end up with something that they do need expect or
want.

sire and a black dam can produce a black and tan puppy...I invited both folks
to call me on the phone to discuss the matter, so far neither have done
so....so I will explain it here publicly...each parent contributes one of two
genes to all of its offspring.....since the color black is recessive a black
dog must have two black genes for coat color, receiving one from each
parent....the only gene this black dog can pass to all of its offspring is a
black gene...so if bred to another black dog, all genes passed from that dog
are only black genes....I can explain this much better on the phone...Ed Hill
