This Sport is definitely not for the faint hearted. But I really
believe the Breeders often have the hardest end of
the bargain. Our hopes are high....it's harder than just going out
and purchasing a STAR....AND..we tend to expect
one in every litter we plan for......<G>.........and losing a puppy or
a litter is never EVER easy.
Breeding is more expensive and complicated than it has ever
been....even though with the simplicity of shipping
fresh-chilled semen it is easier to open up more lines and often so
much more convenient....until they FAIL. <G>
Used to be we struggled to put a bitch on the plane....and it was left
up to the stud, the stud owner and the
bitch. Most of the time all three knew what they were doing and the
breedings went as planned.
Now we have to find Repro Vets, and each one wants to rule our lives
in different ways...and we suffer through
progesterone tests....that often result in a breeding being necessary
when it is impossible because of Holidays
or shows...etc. with as much money invested in progesterone tests and
cultures that are more than the stud fee.
Stud owners ask for specific tests for some bacterial problems that
are surfacing at the advice of their own
vet .....or as a result of some of their own experiences or the
experiences of many breeders around us that have
suffered their own devastating problems. Then we have the Repro Vets
that want everything done THEIR way,
in spite of the requirements the Stud owner is asking of the bitch
owner.
Most of the time there is no problem........until there IS....then the
results can be devastating.....and THOSE
are the ones that worry all of us.

Breeding Experts!
It was never easy. The Way To litter of 10 started dying and over six
days they were all gone. The last litter before this one were
beautiful, but could not move, so sold as pets. The litter we have now
was two puppies. One was born dead, and Tedi didn't think the other
would make it, but this is three weeks and we have a Big Ben daughter
doing great.
It is never easy.
