Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Breeder's question - bit long

I recently bred a litter of non GSD.  The male used was not our own - 7 years
old, never had a litter, by owner's choice, four owners - two where he resides,
the breeder, the backer.  They agreed to let us use him, this will be his only
litter.
There were six puppies, three male, three female.  The stud dog owner(s) asked
specifically for a male puppy back, their choice was second pick as they knew I
also wanted to keep a male.  I sold all but the two males.  Then at three weeks
they decided that they would rather have the pick bitch, who was lovely.  So I
'un-sold' her, and was left with the second male.  At about six weeks they
decided 'no', they really wanted the male, so I resold the bitch.  At 9 weeks
they wanted the bitch again and, fed up, I told them they couldn't have her as
she was again spoken for.  This is not necessarily a breed with a lot of
buyers.  People don't buy them because they are just looking for a 'dog'.

Then they wanted me to pack up all six puppies, prior to having vaccines, drive
8 hours (crossing the border) to the residence of the stud dog, so that they
could evaluate the litter, which I refused to do.  These people were more than
welcome at any time to come to my home to visit and see puppies, but they
didn't want to go through the time and expense of getting a passport to cross
the border (their words, not mine), and as I already had one, they might as
well capitalize on that.

I sent scads of pictures and videos and they decided on their puppy.  He was to
be sent to the *breeder* co-owner, not the *residence* co-owner.  The breeder
informed me that she expected me to cover the cost of the flight as she already
had too much invested in the dog/puppy to spend any more...(???)  We had a
discussion, she paid the flight.

The puppy gets there, they do not contact me for 12 hours to tell me that he
arrived safe and sound (of course I knew that he had because I phoned the
airline long before), and apparently he is missing his testicles.  Dunno where
they went, he had them when he got on the plane.

Rec'd another email tonight that they are taking him to the vet to get his take
on the situation and that we will discuss *options* after that.  They want the
puppy I kept.  They told me they do.  There is nothing wrong with the puppy
they took, the dog had two testicles, fully descended when he left.

I still don't have paperwork back on the litter, I am afraid that she is
holding it up until this is dealt with.
The whole experience has been going downhill since the litter arrived, little
bits and pieces, picking here and there.

I would like to tell them to send the puppy back and pay them a stud fee.  I
feel that this is just going to go really bad and that there is going to be
something wrong with any or every puppy I send them and am not willing to deal
with that for the next 12 or so years.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,

Jenn
