When I bought my current property I had a two acre kudzu patch next door.  
For those of you who don't know kudzu, it is a vine that grows up to TWO FEET 
per day.  It can grow on concrete blocks and cars and covers everything in the 
south that sits still for more than an hour!!  If it can't spread, it grows 
up.  The property was covered at a depth of at least 6 feet and in some, even 
higher.  I managed to kill it on my yard and through weekly spraying of 
a maxiprofessional grade brush killer [that someone got me from the power 
company] kept it on the other side of the property line.  I also kept rat 
traps set in and around my kennel and would occasionally catch a big wood rat 
but didn't consider that I had a problem.....just an occasional UNWANTED kennel 
visitor.  



Anyway..... about 5 years ago the lot sold and my new neighbor, in his quest to 
build, bulldozed the lot and took about a foot of the top soil away just to 
kill the stuff.  When he did, I was OVERRUN with wood rats..... big BIG brown 
rats that look like a wharf rat but appear healthier! [LOL YUCK]  My 
conditions didn't change - kennel and house still clean but had to call in 
exterminators, set traps, poison, etc to clean them out.  It took weeks.  I 
am paranoid about the furry scavengers so the traps stay set [although I 
haven't caught anything or seen fresh sign in a couple of years.....]  



I was not happy... the dogs were not happy... the rats were certainly not 
happy..... I still have tunnels under the house but no more rats.   If you 
live in a rural area and construction starts...... you can certainly be overrun 
quickly.  I learned the hard way!!!

No, I don't, really... 
There was a situation a couple of years ago in Ontario where they were doing 
work, widening one of the highways - not exactly city, not exactly country.  I 
don't know WHAT they stirred up, it wasn't in our area, but there were rats by 
the dozens.  The Municipality and the construction company had to call in and 
pay for extermination.  1/2 - million dollar homes and properties in the area 
were over run with the creatures.   
Go ahead, tell THEM they had sanitation issues...

  I live in the country and I am rodent free.  I pay a service every month, 
billed right to my AMEX.  They use something that doesn't have a "second 
generation", so even if a dog was to eat a filed mouse that had gotten some 
bait, no issues. 

  Come on Jenn, you don't think the number of RATS mentioned in the initial
