I agree with what Helen says below, and would like to add that even meat from the supermarket can occassionally cause problems. I don't "feed raw", but use to give my dogs raw chicken backs sometimes for a treat. Then one cool day I gave them each one - still semi-frozen - and by that night they all had black runny diarea. The only one not affected was my senior girl who didn't care for raw meat and ignored hers. The young dog that ate hers after his own was extra ill. After several days of 8 GSD's with the 'black squirts', I decided to stick with boiled chicken for the dogs! Even store chicken can have traces of salmonella.
