And that's why Your credibility is among the highest of any in our breed! Never sure if my fingers can't keep up with my brain...or my brain can't keep up with ANYTHING. It just doesn't come out right sometimes....<G> All I know is that like Lloyd Brackett I prefer close linebreeding to outcrossing.....and mix breeds. <G> Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.marhaven.com -----Original Message----- From: On Behalf Of edwinx@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2014 4:52 PM To: ' Carolyn Martello Subject: Re: Bracket Formula The discussion of mixed breeds did not come up and my post is hearsay statingwhat I believe she said approximately 4 months ago .....and she was not making a value judgement about inbreeding vs out- cross. she was just giving us what she believed the science showed....If I remember correctly shesaid all pure bred dog breeding is " in breeding" and remember she IS a breeder! One of Her main points was genetic diversity is not our enemy. And remember I have NO credibility in the subject of breeding conformation GSDs. I'm just reporting what I heard. She also said it is healthier to breed a bitch three times in a row than to breed once a year. She was not suggesting we go out and do it for reasons of finding good homes and over population etcetc.... She was just giving us the science. She said many things that many on this list would not agree with but like I said the symposium was outstanding I hope they do it next year Ed Sent from Xfinity Connect Mobile App ------ Original Message ------ From: Carolyn Martello To: edwinx@xxxxxxxxxxx, freelist, vicisheps@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: July 23, 2014 at 4:26 PM Subject: RE: Re: Bracket Formula SOOOOooooooo that Vet says 'Pure Bred' dogs have "negative genes".....but mix breeds do not??? How can that be?? Pure bred dogs CAME from ...just, all kind of dogs? Do these Vets ever consider that the "pure bred" dog breeder and owner may just be more likely to bring their dog to the Vet than many owners of the mix breeds that fill back yards all over the Country? Possibly they should start showing more concern and respect for the "purebred dog"breeder and owner. They DO help fill their tills.........<G> SOOOooooooo IF the inbreeding and or linebreeding is done on a specific dog that does not carry any horrible genetic problems....is that actually worse than outcrossing to four different lines or studs or bitches that DO produce horrible genetic problems? Just curious...... ...but not sure I know my own name either without a name tag any more....<G> Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.marhaven.com ] On Behalf Of edwinx@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2014 9:53 AM To: freelists.org; vicisheps@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Bracket Formula First of all I have no credibility regarding breeding conformation German Shepherds. But I've been breeding animals ..... Pigeons rabbits chickens and protection and show dogs for 45 years! If have no credibility breeding show dogs because I have never bred anything worthwhile and there's a pretty goodchance I never will. I attended a dog breeding symposium last Feb at UC Davis. The information I learned at the symposium was priceless. One of the lecturing Vets breeds some type do Duck Trolling dog ( forgot the real name) It was her belief that all pure bred dogs have negative genes , she gave her reasons for that belief. She also stated that breeding to the popular stud dog is the one of the quickest ways of limiting the overall gene pool of a breed and therefore increasing the risk of health issues The vet was the highlife of the day. Wish I could remember her name. In a few years I won't remember my name.
