Why not?
Ed and Celeste and Pat have three Futurity/Maturity winners. Certainly
Marhaven would make an impact on the National if they didn't go. If there
was a West Coast boycott I would join, and leave Bob alone at the microphone.
I don't agree with that, as it would affect the entire membership because we
don't agree with the action of the board.
Let's hang in there, keep supporting the membership, and our great breed.

Boycott the National?..... Terry, did you say boycott the National! The Super
Bowl for German Shepherds?.... Did you mean NOT entering and attending the
show?.... You mean stay home and not go! Are you out of your mind!.....
That's BRILLIANT ! Why did I not think of that! I must be slipping..... What
if no one west of the Rocky Mountains attended the 2017 National... The
Oakland Raiders have a better chance of winning the Real Super Bowl than us
having a west coast National Boycott..... But it sure is a great idea.....

I see no reason to stay a member of the PC. I see no reason for anyone on the
west coast to be a member of the GSDCA. Am I surprised that they cancelled
the Reno national. Nope. Do I see any reason to continue to fly to west coast
shows and take pictures so that the Review can use them. Nope . As long as
the west coast folks are willing to drive the 4 days one way to the national
it will stay in Saint Louis. The only way to get the attention of the PC is
to not renew your membership and boycott the national.
There is a lot of talent on the west coast we can organize a west coast
event.

Well I can't say I am shocked at all. Disappointed~ DEFINITELY! I
always figured Reno would be a problem for
the Club and tried to tell the Chair that before the money was spent to fly
in and look at it. However, after the site
and situation was examined and approved......SO MANY of us out West were
finally beginning to believe it would
happen, and were getting all excited about being able to show our dogs
reasonably close! ......AH WELL......
Until the Board finally "gets it" and sets three permanent rotating sites
so that ALL of us have a chance to get to
a National at least two out of three years with our dogs.....this will now
be set in stone for Purina to be our National
site from now on. We now see that the rumor is/was actually true.
( Just shipped a 1 yr. old male into Minn./St. Paul ONE WAY for over
$900.00! That is just the flight...that is
not counting the price of the crate ( who has #700's laying around ) and
the Health Certificate....)
That pretty much leaves us out. Can't get there any reasonable way with a
dog by air............and the 2 to 3 day
drive is just too much year after year. We did that twice in a row
already. ( that adds 5 - 6 days to the National )
Now the problem is..... many of us will soon begin to realize that if we
don't plan on the National anymore it pretty
much takes away our motivation to continue to compete in
Futurities.......and then in time it will dawn on us.......
Why continue to be a paying membership to a Club that does not appear to
know there is a part of this Country West
of the Continental Divide??
Why? For what? To keep the balance up? For a 20 or 30 year pin?
It's pretty easy for the Board who already thought St. Louis was the answer
to resolve everything.... to choose that
as a semi permanent site. I wonder if they even considered 2 to 3
permanent sites instead...cutting down on the
days and just trying to streamline the National more. Most of us would be
happy with a three day Event that at
least was available to us!!
As Ed Hill always says......Certain Board members may definitely be a
PERMANENT BOARD because soon they
will begin to lose the members and there will be no one else to run for the
Board anyway. They will just own the
Club in time.....and then every single one of them will also judge the
National.

We have been telling people about the show coming to Reno and it was
sparking the same wonderful response we got when Albany was the location.
Not just serious GSD exhibitors but people who love the breed. Reno is a
great place to go and people were getting excited. So now we get to tell
them it's off. Great PR. But then that never was the club's priority. So it
is now the GSD of East of the Rockies. Way to go.

Looks like the National will be in St Louis forever! To be clear many many
years ago it was my opinion that the National should be at the same location
every year. I even ran for the board on that agenda.... Used to debate the
late great Dick Whalen on this subject! I changed my opinion ( I always
listen, but rarely do I reverse an opinion) and agreed with the majority
opinion of the club members ( not that their opinions matter)... I'm not
stupid, when the idea to go to St Louis was floated to the club I was under
the impression that we were doing so because it would be FREE, many others
were under the same impression. Then we find out it wasn't free ( wink
wink)... So next year the show was to be on the west coast in Reno! I stated
loudly that I thought this location was a bad idea even though I can drive
from my house to Reno in about 3 hours! It's pretty much in my backyard ( I
angered a few folks with my comments, not the first time) and let me digress
here, I am NOT bitching at the board, this gripe is squarely on the
shoulders of the membership! With little overall change we elect the same
folks year after year! St Louis was a LIE, RENO was always a bad idea, and
rotation!? No chance.... It's like what judge Judy said, and this time my
quote is correct. " don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining" as for
the chicken quote.... Malcolm X said that! Time to watch the Olympics! Ed
