To those of you who wish to participate in the much-needed Bloat Torsion 
Gastric Research..

You can contact Dr. Mathew Pletcher at Scripps Institute in Florida... He has 
been funded by the GSDCA to search for the DNA MARKER  for 
Bloat/Torsion(Gastric)   ...
The Great Dane Club has also funded Dr. Pletcher for the same  Research as it 
is also  a huge problem in Great Danes..

He needs  blood samples and pedigrees... As of July 10, 2007 he had only 27 
German Shepherd Blood Samples from Shepherds that had torsioned and survived or 
had  First generation relatives that had torsioned, etc. etc. 

 I had truly hoped that many more people would have  aided him in this 
Research.. Unfortunately, I have not been well and therefor unable   to keep up 
with my requests  and reminders for you all to participate. 
 I am sorry and I do apologize for that, as this research,  is most certainly 
one of the MOST IMPORTANT HEALTH ISSUES we are facing today in Our GSD Breed.

   I realize that Bloat/Torsion MESENTERIC  is also on the rise in our GSD 
Breed. But there is Research going on for  Pancreatic Acinar Atrophy , which I 
personally believe is the catalyst behind this condition, so perhaps it will 
come to pass that both Gastric and Mesenteric Torsion can be identified with 
DNA MARKERS in the future.. It would be a Monumental  
Break-Thru!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Please help.. Barb Williams
