So here's a thought -

Yes, bloat is an issue in many large breed dogs - you name most of the Working
breeds and it is there as with Labs, Goldens, etc.

HOWEVER, certain lines, certain stud dogs, you name it.. do seem to have more
of an issue with it than others. Why? There must be SOME genetic predisposition
to it.

I don't know what the cure for it is. I will tell you one thing though, I have
a wonderful vet and loves my dogs, but she said the scariest day in her life
will be if/when I ever bring one of my girls in for bloat... She said it is
probably THE hardest thing for vets to deal with in addition to the
breeders/owners.

Let's face it, all breeds have health issues, but burying your head in sand and
making excuses aren't going to make it go away.. My other love are Flat-Coated
Retrievers. Do you know that about 70% of them die of cancer before the age of
9/10.. How sad is that.. Now they have been very open about it and there is
tons of research going on - there is a genetic link there... But cancer is also
a problem in Goldens, Labs, Dobes, etc... so how is it a problem in those
breeds too?

I am not sure what the magic potion is for this, but the people I feel the
worst for are the pet folks who have to watch their 6 year old dog die from
something like bloat, cancer, stones, etc.. It's time for breeders to step up
to the plate and do something about it.

Here's the other thing I was thinking - if certain lines are so full of a
health problem and people are aware of it, WHY are people still purchasing,
breeding dogs from this line? Because it is all about the 15 minutes of fame
and not about the love of a dog which many people seem to have forgotten...
