When I was in charge of Junior Handlers, I had to call someone to nominate
their daughter for the award. Each year I would call and then it would be
awarded. Then people seemed to be more interested, and then there was
more competition. I tried to encourage juniors, and it took a couple of years
to make it work.
Maybe we need to do the same with the hero award. Just because it has
fell out of favor, is not a good reason to dispose of it. We should find
someone willing to promote it, and keep it available for better times.
Things come and go. We should be there when they come back. It is easy
to give up, but takes a bit of effort to keep things alive. Let Gail assign
it to someone willing to make those efforts, and keep it going. In memory
