Nancie,

If you look at the coloration pattern for Dobie and Rotties, you will
see a true bi-color, as you describe below.  I don't have my books close
to refer to, but I believe it's the same gene that causes the bi-color
in GSDs.  We just have different modifiers to it.  I've never seen
either of those breeds with the solid black face that we get.  Nor have
I seen GSDs with the very open markings (not tan enclosed in black) that
can be found in either Dobies or Rotts.

Yeah, and maybe 2 spots on the front of the chest? Actually a pattern
to the 
markings, 2 eyebrow dots, 2 chest spots, 2 check spots, and tan 
feet/pasterns,but not all the way up to the elbows?
