They prefer the rich red markings with a very black full saddle or saddle-blanket, covering the neck and tail and a black mask and black markings on the head and ears... I would think that after years of such selective breeding any other colors, would be rare. Some of the German Conformation lines did carry Black and some that were grey in the early 50's and 60's and 70's.. They have recently utilized a grey Male, VA 2 Timo von Berrekatsen His critique in the Urma Book 2001...... is interesting in the fact it states: VA 2 Timo von Berrekasten: 'Particularly well-pigmented, very strongly masculine and especially expressive grey dog, substantial and strong. He has a high wither and straight back, good length and angle of croup. Very correct fore and hind angulation and balanced brisket proportions..Correct coming and going, and with a well maintained center of balance he develops a powerful gait with effective hindthrust and free front reach. This grey dog is distinguished because of his harmonius body proportions, his especially good colouring on the top of his head and dark eyes. Expression and masculinity and Presence are above average. As in the previous years the dog was presented in very good condition and convinced again because of his superb presentation and enthusiasm to move. The over all Champion at the VDH-Bundessieger Show for all breeds.. was again in position to present a convincing progeny group. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that 15 progeny could be exhibited in the Open Classes. This raises the expectation that Timo will decisively contribute to the establishment of the grey colour within our Breed. ' I quoted this as it explains the dog mentioned, 'Timo' also fulfills all the requirements of conformation and gait,. and progeny quality, to be considered for the introduction of the grey color into the Breed ... Possibly if another very outstanding individual came along of such a high degree of excellence they would consider bringing in ''Another of a Different Color'...JMO barb williams ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2004.
