The rule exists but is often ignored, for a variety of reasons.
The point of the discussion was whether other wins would be disallowed if
a dog quit competing at any point........in all my years of showing dogs I
have never heard of this happening in the AKC.
The rules that ARE enforced are the ones about awarding Reserve (can't
be done until Winners has been awarded) and Best of Winners (both dogs must
be present.)
