[ SHOWGSD-L ] Behavior Problems...............HELP

Y'all,
  I just got this from my Vet.......he is baffled. Here is what I sent him

  Sounds to me that there has been an incident that scared the crap out of him! 
Could he have been left outside and like kids have thrown firecrackers at him? 
What did the owners do when he would be so anxious at the thunderstorms? I have 
heard of dogs changing like this and they ended up having a brain tumor. I'll 
put this to some of the list I am on and see what others say. IF it was just a 
behavioral thing, the zanax should have calmed him  down for sure. Will let you 
know.......Mo

I have a client with a GSD that is a neutered male and about 8 years old.  He 
has always had some thunderstorm anxiety.  Over the last few weeks, he has 
begun to become very anxious and destructive when Fort Hood is firing.  He 
tries to rip the commode off the wall and scratches at the hardwood floors to 
the point of destruction.  He was very edgy in the clinic today and tried to 
scratch and rip the chairs in the exam room.  I have put him on Zanax as 
recommended by the veterinary behaviorist and so far no change.  Any ideas or 
recommendations?  The owners are willing to do just about anything.
