Why do they have to be thanked?
They took the weekend to represent us. They listened to the presentations,
and discussed a difficult and hostile subject. They work all year to keep
this breed and our club safe, and vote for what they think will be the best
thing for the GSDCA, the German shepherd, and the club members. They take
hostile
phone calls all year, take the heat for many decisions, and give up hours
and hours of their time to respond to our letters, phone calls, and questions.
At the meetings there are tears, and frustration. Things are said that
hurt, and personal attacks are not unheard of.
The board members agree to work for us for little thanks, and take the blame
for anything we do not agree with. They manage a company worth about a
million dollars a year, and agree to sit on four weekends a year to listen to
problems in the sport, give up their time for no money, go on the record for
votes we bitch about, and miss dog shows they would rather go to.
Our board members run for election and can be voted off, or on, depending on
what the members think. Nothing they do is without those who do not agree,
and they have to listen to us say so, both on this List, and in person at the
shows.
For that I thank them. I may not agree, and I may continue to work against
a position our board may take, but I recognize the sacrifice they make on my
behalf. I recognize the hard work that goes into a decision. I recognize
how difficult some decision might be. And, I recognize how difficult it can
be
to be out voted on something you feel strongly against.
That is why I think we should thank our board.
