A belfry is a tower for large bells, usually in a town hall steeple or a
church steeple.
Sometimes bats reside in the bell tower or steeple.
"Bats in the belfry" is colloquialism often used in English slang speech to
indicate that
someone just might be a little "nutty".
Probably could be used to refer to any of us in the sport of pure bred dogs
once in a while.............
We hear that a lot in conversation when we are standing out in gale force rain
storm under a tent watching the American bred bitch class.........
Or...........in the middle of a blizzard in Pennsylvania at the Mid Atlantic
Futurity
with Vicki Roye judging............
........huddled under tarps with mounds of snow piling up........
Vicki ......frozen........ trying to examine teeth........snow
everywhere........
A little "nutty"..........but there we all were, being "nutty", snow covered
and cold together.
One was heard to remark......
"We must all have bats in our belfries......"
