Yes, that was in 1975, I think, and the great filly, Ruffian had surgery
performed on her and then she was euthanized shortly thereafter....so sad.

Like many, I watched with sadness as Barbaro was valiantly pulled up by his
jockey today in the Preakness--I think these horses are run too damn young.
Does anybody remember the magnificent filly, Ruffian, who broke down in that
match-race many moons ago? I always wanted to name one of my black dogs
after her.
