I just happened to realize more on this subject -- for some odd reason the smaller (toy etc.) breeds do have more teeth/gums/etc. problems than the bigger breeds. My 3 lb. toy poodle always had bad breath and the Vet checked her out and there are several "gum & mouth" ailments that are quite common. The infections are below the teeth in the gums etc. and it does affect the teeth themselves, indeed they had to pull TWELVE of hers at once due to the seriousness of it once they realized what it was. Hope this helps so the total Pap mouth can be checked.
