GREAT post.?
 I am wondering if any of you ever take a newbie aside, who is handling their 
own dog and didn't win but you thought would have with the right handler's 
showing experience, and tell them what you think?? Do you tell them you loved 
their dog and you think the dog could go far with a professional handler?? And, 
do you give them some handlers names to contact?? Do you try to help them 
become a better handler?

OR, do you just think these thoughts, and not express them?

How many of you would do this for a complete stranger?? To me, this is good 
sportmanship, and love of the breed. Every breeder started as a beginner.

BTW - it seems the majority of the?people on this list are going the extra mile 
to help others.?

Hi Guys
I had to sit, at llength and think about this.  I had to cool off.  I had to
take several deep breaths....
I had to tone down what I really wanted to say, because not to do so would
mean using the letter replacing
asterisks, and figures on the PC keyboard, used to substitute "colorful
metaphors".    I had to pace, and grit my teeth
and feel utterly dejected...and now I am just plain angry....
A dear Friend of ours, who has owned a beloved GSD in years past,  who now
owns a big boned, easy moving ,
sweet male of show lines , a male who is not a Select dog, but is a fine
dog, nonetheless, who has won classes as
a puppy and young adult, and is adored by his family.  This is a dog that IS
an ambassador to the breed, handsome,
happy and dearly loved....

His owner, (our friend) a very well educated man, a man whose very
livelyhood and job is all about detail, and engineering,
and specifications...a man with a brilliant mind and sharp memory, and big
heart...a man that we are HONORED to call "Friend"
A man with whom we share a love of the GSDs, and humor, and life in
general....

He was visiting our house last night, and as usual, talk was of dogs, esp
the up and coming youngsters, as well as about his dogs...
the beautiful GSD, and the arrogant, funny pomeranian...lol

This friend of ours began to speak of someone from the local area, whom we
are well acquainted with (and no, I will not tell you this
inviduals name so don't ask)  He asked "I noticed that some people seem to
lack social graces or just good manners at the shows"
He went on to say, "Most are at least decent, but there are some that just
seem to not care what they say to people?"

We told him, "well there are those in everything, any venue, but yes,
dogshows too"
He went on to say, "Remember when I came to the _______ shows?"    There was
that person (name here) that you said had been in
shepherds for many , many years, and you had introduced me to him/her
before"....
Well, I was standing there next to (_name here_____)   and he/she pointed at
my
 dog while talking to someone next to them,  and said , quote
 "Now this is an example of a dog that will NEVER win in the ring"     end
quote .

Then, our dear Friend said,  "I was shocked, and more than a little put
off"  Afterall, I came there *by invitation* to bring my dog, and to learn
and
enjoy the shows.   I am pretty sure we all love our dogs, and to have
someone that is supposedly a long standing exhibitor breeder say such a
hurtful thing
was just EVIL..."  (his words, not mine)  He furthered with , " It is a good
thing I am not too thin skinned about things, but really, it was just so
mean, and nasty.  I was going to tell you guys, but being new, I didn't want
to stir up any bad feelings"

This person, our Friend, is a lovely individual.  He ADORES his GSD, whom he
has had shown a time or two and has even had the COURAGE to show
himself, despite some physical challenges.  He has been ridiculed, and now
the with person that did this.....MY GOD WHAT IS WRONG WITH
PEOPLE?????

This is a man that only wants to enjoy his dog, to learn, to enjoy the
company of people that SUPPOSEDLY love the breed.
He was treated like sh*t .  He was made to feel inferior.  All this by a
person that is perhaps one of the poorest sports in the area.
By a person who leaves in a huff if they lose...or who has stood at ringside
during a class win by another dog and pronounced, in a
tantrum regarding the winning dog "THATS A PIECE OF SH....!!!"     Where
owners, spectators and handlers could hear, at least 20 feet away.


I hope that person reads this, and realizes the damage they do, like
others.   :Look down the line at your next specialty show Folks, at the
aging faces and grey hair and realize we are about 15 years or less from
OBLIVION on some of these clubs.

TO THE PEOPLE IN THIS AREA THAT INSIST ON BEING NASTY TO NEWCOMERS, AND YOU
KNOW WHO YOU ARE....
WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, YOU ARE ONLY HURTING THE
BREED AND THE CLUBS YOU
CLAIM TO CARE ABOUT.  AND YOU WONDER WHY YOU CAN'T GET NEW MEMBERS?????
 I 
am sickened by this.   No wonder new people  don't want to join
us........I don't blame them, and I will be hard pressed to EVER want
invite another person to a show around here, given the treatment they get
from IDIOTS, like this.
I want to throw up.
Now how to apologize to our friend for putting such a nice person (by our
invitation, no less), into a den of friggi'n vultures?  How to fix the
damage?   AAAAAAAAAARGH.
I AM HEARTBROKEN....I CAN ONLY IMAGINE OUR OUR GENTLE FRIEND MUST HAVE
FELT....I AM SO DAMN SORRY.
