I want to clarify that I was only speaking as an HR person that these 
background checks are easy and inexpensive.  As to whether the GSDCA  should do 
them or not, I do not know why they would now be thinking abou this.  Unless 
they are out to get someone.....?    
 
Have there been issues with this in the past or a reason to be suggesting this 
now?

I agree with this 100%.  I also work in HR and we do background checks on every 
person we employ and also credit checks for certain positions.  We hire a 
service to do our background checks and they are fairly inexpensive and can be 
done on a county, state or national level.

I am in Human Resources. Most companies and organizations require all
potential employees to pass a strict criminal and sometimes civil background
check. For employees with access to or control over funds, we also run a
credit check. 

Even thought not employees, for as large an organization as the GSDCA is and
for as large as our budget is, I would think we would want to do the same of
our potential officers.

If you think it is something that we should do, I can explain in more detail
how it would work. It is inexpensive and can be done confidentially, meaning
that we could set pass/fail criteria and the results would be pass or fail,
without giving details of any conviction. 

What do you think?
