This past weekend, German Shepherd Dogs were back at the big benched show in San Francisco after 5 years of absence. Several years ago the show club, Golden Gate KC, moved their date and it conflicted with a local specialty club's specialty show date so GSDs could not be shown at the bench show. Thanks to some hard working club members, the specialty club changed their date so GSDs could be back at the all breed bench show. In this day of breed restrictions, several of us felt that our breed really needed to be represented at this show which draws thousands of spectators. We felt we needed to showcase our breed and show their true wonderful temperament and personality. The breed was warmly received this weekend and welcomed back to the show by both the show giving club members and the public. Another local GSD club, Diablo Valley GSDC, shared a breed information table with the local rescue group to also showcase the breed with printed information and videos of our dogs doing conformation, obedience, and herding. The Golden Gate KC now has separate shows on Sat. and Sun whereas in past years there was only one show but you were benched both days. Now you only have to be benched the day you are showing. Ch. Rohan's Reward TC, CGC, HT, CD, RA, "Strider", was shown only on Sunday and went Best of Breed and on to a Group 3 at this prestigious show. Thank you to judge Keke Kahn for the wins. His daughter, Jezra's C-R Zahara of Showboat, "Stella, won her 12-18 class and went on to WB, BOW and BOS. Stella was also RWB on Saturday. The wins were great and my thanks to their handler, Art Sinclair, who piloted them to the wins and to Channing Sheets who took Stella back in for the BOB competition. And thanks to Tracy Radigan, Strider's trainer and conditioner (& Stella's co-breeder & co-owner) and to Kathy Estrada who was there to help us out at ringside and on the bench. It is a long weekend but something I think is very important for our breed. Strider and Stella were great ambassadors for the breed and gave thousands of doggy kisses to thousands of little children and their parents. Stella was there both days and she did outstanding work in the cleaning of the face category! For a young dog who is not around small children, we was amazingly tolerant of litt sticking their face and hands all over her and then rewarding them with wet kisses. Am glad this show is only once a year as it take almost that long to recover....for me ...not the dogs! Mutli-BISS & Multi Group Winning Ch. Rohan's Reward TC, CGC, HT, CD, RA Sire: Sel. Ch.
