I just wanted to share two of my very favorite Boss stories. Carolyn
asked me to temperament test his litter when they were 7 weeks old. Not
only did he exhibit the temperament then that we all now know he had,
but his charisma even then was unmistakable. Boss already KNEW that he
owned the entire world! I tried to take him home, but Carolyn was
having none of it. At 7 weeks old, it was obvious that this dog was
something very special.
Carolyn and I co-owned his half sister. When Summer was bred, Carolyn
whelped the puppies. My husband and I went up to see the puppies when
they were four or five weeks old. When we drove up, Boss was on the
front lawn with the puppies, baby sitting. I know it was one of his
favorite activities. He let the little ones climb all over him and
enjoyed their company. If they ventured too far from him, he would herd
them back to the group. When Carolyn let Summer out so she could greet
us, Boss wouldn't let her near the puppies! Carolyn and the puppies had
to convince him that Summer really was the mother and was not going to
harm them. Once convinced of that, he moved off to the side where he
could lay and watch the proceedings but let Summer care for her puppies.
Always on guard.
I will always remember him for all the things he did, in and out of the
ring.
