I can say that I cannot get the nutro lamb and rice puppy and had to get the
adult kibble instead. It is the same ingredients but a larger kibble. Sissy
was sick late last week and stopped holding down stuff Sat nit. I took her to
an ER vet who was kind enough to trust me and my abilities. After blood and
xray it was decided that whatever was wrong with her she could wait till Monday
for my regular vet, if she had fluids. Rather than leave her there with an I V
of Ringers, I took her home and gave her fluids sub Q, under the skin, from the
back with a catheter line and a needle that went straight into her. After
about 20 hours of Sub Q fluids, she was ready to eat again. But it was Easter
Sunday and there were not stores open for me to get beef and potatos to cook
for her. So I soaked the Nurto adult lamb and rice to mush, she has had 2
meals of 1/4 the usual amount, last night, and just now at 7:45 am she had 1/2
the usual amount.
I suspect she was digesting a pine bark chip that had bird blood on it. The
whole thing made her sick. The xrays were outstanding in detail, but no object
showed up that was clearly in need of removal. She started to shit again with
the fluids and I think she passed what offended her. She is getting antacids
of several forms, as she needs it, but is otherwise well on the road to
recovery.
As for the problems reported at the web site? I raised my babies on the
Nutro puppy lamb and rice. Bucko's lupus was not related to the food in any
way. He weighed, at his peak, 85, Sissy was 68 at the vet and the other 2 are
now loosing some weight because the adult version has less protein. Good
thing, they were getting fat and I had cut down all I felt safe cutting. I am
now trying to figure how much of the adult they need to maintain a weight.
I am also soaking the kibbles for several minutes before feeding, they are
used to much smaller pieces and I worry about these larger ones. But the
soaking seems to be working.
I also have smaller tighter stools. Only my dogs with issues have loose
stools. Sissy was very sick, and I doubt it was the food, I know what she has
been up to, I just was not fast enough. And Bucko is driven to eat many things
he should not including the poop of his pack mates and even the sick stuff poor
Sissy was pooping there for a few days.
He pays and pays, it will surely shorten his life. But then again the
infection he is going to the vet with his sister for may be what kills him.
Lupus sucks.
