What is amazing is all the people handlers and dogs that fly in from Germany.
They seem to be able to figure it out. The Seiger show has only the protection
and conformation to deal with. They also host the helper championships.

any local Specialties when looking at dates so we can't be cavalier and just
jump around. It does not matter also what weekend we may want it's the site
that says what they have open. This is another reason to nail them down with
contracts.

Horse shows work 3 to 10 years out to get the best sites.

Excess baggage is usually $100 each way I think. Overweight is different.
Continental/Northwest charge freight so it's $500 or $600 each way per dog.

Get's more and more complicated huh?

I flew from Saint Louis home on Monday at 4:00 in the afternoon. It is a
great time to fly. The planes are not full. I had two large plans the problem
was if there weren't enough people they canceled the flights. My guess is that
the people who want to show dogs will be driving and the spectators will be
flying. With that in mind the nationals that are held in the colder climates
need to be early Oct and the nationals held in the southern warmer climates can
be held in Nov.

What was the average cost of flying a dog excess baggage? I was over
weight with the cameras and printers. They charged me 75.00 each way for being
20 lbs over the limit.

            Hi Terry;
We drove to St. Louis with three dogs caravaning with another van with two
dogs from
    N. California.
Four days driving to get there.........three days of hard driving another
route to get home.

No National site is perfect......there will always be an issue we can pick
on if we are so
inclined and bad things happen to good people.......but it all starts with
easy to get to with
dogs to make a successful National. It's a huge undertaking......and
everyone wants it in
their back yard. The best that can be done is to make it easy access for
everyone with
dogs. We are all going to have to concede to that first, to keep the
National successful.
Then.......seriously consider helping to find sites near main hub airports
for direct flights
    for the dog friendly airlines.

How many people drove to the national? I didn't attend this year but did go
to the NASS in Saint Louis. this past week. I talked to 3 groups of people that
drove from Oregon to the WDA show. They did it in 36 hours straight driving. It
was the only way the could get there with their dogs. I believe each group
traveled with at least 3 dogs. How many of you are willing to drive 40 hrs one
way to a national?

All the years we were at Perry,it seemed we didn't have any problems

  Ms. Helen...

Perry was a good site...but so was Albany. Stalls, and green grass
  everywhere.

Any time we have stalls we will have dust from the shavings and the dirt. I
didn't notice the dust this year but I also don't have a sensitivity to dust
  as many do.

That said...I am sensitive to those that do but where do we draw the line?
Do we make the National site the best for the many or the best for those
with dust allergies? Not being snide...but asking a serious question.

At this past Board meeting in St. Louis...I sat close to newly elected Board
member Bart Bartly. When the Springfield Ohio site was mentioned...he stated
it was...and this may be a paraphrase so I won't quote him...It was the best
site for a dog show he'd seen. Joan found this show site for us and after
looking at it...I was impressed. I went out on the Sunday I was leaving just
so I could say I'd seen it because I couldn't stay for the Monday tour.

If someone has the magic formula to make everyone happy...PLEASE...email it
to THIS Board member so I can become a hero.

  Paul

PS...Our 1st National was the Phoenix show and we were in awe there were
that many GSD's, folks, and owners. It was 110 during the day and the sweat
evaporated offa ya before it could run down your nose. Good things and bad
  things to be sure.
