There are TWO entirely separate issues regarding the GSDCA and the white dog. They do not need to be mutually exclusive and should be addressed as two separate items. . 1. The role of the white coated GSD within the GSDCA.. This has been addressed recently by the Board via a possible change to the standard to remove the disqualifying fault. This is the view supported by members of the WGSDCA & WGSDCI. This would require a membership vote to change the standard. 2. The other issue, is the establishment of the White Swiss Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse (White Shepherd) as a unique breed within the AKC. The Berger Blanc Suisse is a full FCI breed and the only thing standing between the establishment of the breed here in the United States with the AKC is the GSDCA. The Berger Blanc Suisse / White Swiss Shepherd is flourishing in Europe as a separate and distinct breed. The members of the American White Shepherd Association (AWSA) who are seeking breed recognition only wish to have the same opportunities for their dogs here in the United States. a. AWSA is only asking that the GSDCA not object to the recognition of the White Swiss Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse (White Shepherd) breed by the AKC. b. AWSA has NOT and will NOT asking for a change to the GSDCA Standard. c. AWSA has NOT and will NOT ask for any changes to the GSDCA award criteria. d. AWSA is NOT even asking for approval or endorsement of the GSDCA of the White Swiss Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse (White Shepherd) breed. e. Regardless of any changes to the GSDCA standard to be more inclusive of the white coated GSD, AWSA WILL continue to petition the GSDCA to seek breed recognition for the White Swiss Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse . AWSA circulated a petition in 2009/2010 with the following wording: We the undersigned, wish the German Shepherd Dog Club of America Board to Draft a letter to the American Kennel Club that it will NOT protest the AKC establishing the White Shepherd as a separate breed within the Foundation Stock Service program The petition was submitted to the board with 368 signatures. At the time the 368 signatures represented over 10% of the GSDCA membership. AWSA was also asked by the GSDCA board to obtain an opinion from the SV regarding this. If the Board is going to request a vote of the membership regarding a standard change to remove the disqualifying fault, What would it take to request the Board to request a membership vote to address the OTHER issue regarding the GSDCA to not object to the establishment of the White Swiss Shepherd/Berger Blanc Suisse (White Shepherd) as a unique breed within the AKC?
