Yes, dogs do get "senile". They (and cats) can get "Cognitive
Disfunction Syndrome" (CDS), which from what I've read is basically
Alzheimer's for dogs (or cats). My 12.5 yr old ES was diagnosed with it
2 years ago. Talk to your vet! Brittany's primary symptom was
inappropriate pooping. We thought it was a matter of her not pooping
because her joints were hurting, so we tried rimadyl and I kept a lot of
detailed records. The "ah-ha" moment when I told the vet that it was
almost like bowel incontinence, and that the didn't seem to even know
that she was pooping sometimes, or didn't quite know until she started
doing it. We put her on anipryl, and there was an immediate change in
her demeanor -- I hadn't realized how withdrawn and "out of it" she'd
been. Unfortunately, it didn't help the pooping completely, but ...

Cheers,
  Leslie
