I read it again and wanted to give you some of my thoughts of what it takes to
finish a dog, and my experiences.

We showed Ruby for about ten shows, and got no points. Then she went to
Arizona, got the name Red Squirrel, went Best of Breed at a big specialty and
finished in the next three shows.

We showed Destiny about ten or twelve times, and she needed five points to
finish. She went to the National at 18 months and went WB to finish. She got
dumped at a number of shows.

We took Bully to San Diego just to see what he looked like in the ring. He went
Best of Breed for a major.

Honey Be Good was shown about 15 times and had 14 points before she died at
about age five.

I believe in the saying, "When you are hot, you are hot". I have shown so many
dogs that get reserves over and over for years. Then they start to take points
and finish quickly.

Every dog is different. I say if you haven't finished a dog by the time he/she
is 14, it is time to give up.

Evan

The post I got had no personal address on it. Not at the top, not at the
bottom, and not hidden within the post. So, here is my response.

I try not to bother people with my opinions, and the question you asked is
impossible to answer. There are so many factors such as picking the right
judges, local or distant shows, specialty or all -breed, etc.

I remember the answer Jerry Guzman gave when asked what it would cost to
finish a dog.

He said a very good dog, not that much. An average dog, the cost of a small
house in the country.

Hello again-

Referring to the copied post below my signature--

I posted this last week-but got ONLY ONE response--and that was from a
personal friend who is a lister. I thought this was what the list was about,
showing and talking about all the venues of how/what/why/ etc--

This is why I RARELY post to the list. Noone even bothers to answer me.

I guess I am a bit Disgusted, and maybe a bit hurt-why did I not get any
answers??

This is the post from last week that no one answered:

Hello to all,

I have a friend who I am trying to talk into showing her bitch.

Assuming that this bitch is a typy black and reddish tan OR perhaps a nice
dark sable, pretty, nice coat, gorgeous mover, great temperament, ring
trained-----------------and will be shown with a known handler--

I would like for as many as possible of you listers out there to give me your
opinion of :

1. What is the AVERAGE length of time you should expect to finish this bitch.
( I know there are many variables here is why I said AVERAGE length of time)
how many months/years??

2. HOW MANY SHOWS should it take--(assuming all breed mostly-perhaps a few
specialty)

Can some of you tell me (and you dont have to mention the dogs name if you
dont want to) some of the dogs you have finished-how many shows it took and
what was the length of time??

THANKS MUCH for your info. I am looking for OPINIONS here please.
