Well, I heard from one of my acquaintances today that she's "Done" with 
showing Shepherds until she gets her own.  She lives in Canada, but I still 
talk to 
her often enough.
She told me today that after training a dog for four months, showing it in 
regular CKC classes, in the Sieger show, and a weekend after the Seiger show, 
she showed up to her next show to show the dog....and somebody else was 
handling 
it.

Now, I can feel her pain, as this has happened to me before too.  I took a 
green dog (Mastiff) with green owners who wished to show.  I worked that dog 
myself for 4 months.  When we started, he had no idea how to stack, how to LET 
himself be stacked, how to gait, nothing.  When it was about time for our first 
show 4 months later, he was free stacking, gaiting properly, and ready enough 
to show for one day at a small local show.

So, after all that work, after me giving up time to work with my own dogs, a 
week before the show they inform me that they're going to use a professional 
instead.  That handler took the dog in that one day and went reserve winners 
dog with him.

I was insulted that they would let me spend all that time working their dog, 
and they didn't even have enough faith in me to let me show him for one day.  
I was hurt that they did this to me, and barely gave me enough notice that I 
shouldn't meet them at the show to show him.  Most of all, I was angry that I 
finally thought I was getting somewhere, only to be dumped last minute.

Now this has happened to my friend.  This is not the first, but the second 
time for her, both times with GSDs.  She is extremely discouraged, and will be 
looking for other breeds to show, but is refusing to do Shepherds again until 
she can buy her own, because that way she can't face this same disappointment 
again.

And we wonder why our sport is suffering.  Not just the sport in regards to 
our breed, but the sport in general.  Why on earth do people do things like 
this?
