I doubt that Lee Duncan would agree that at this stage of the game "any" German Shepherd Dog would do especially since his dogs were Silver Grey and not a traditional Black and Tan - a clear difference. The Lassie movie in and of itself didn't mention that all of the Lassie dogs have been males, however, if you visit www.Lassie.net or speak to Joan Neiderhardt, you will learn it isn't a secret.
