Ameteur means not paid/not professional. It does not mean no experience. The
ameteur futurity was not put together specifically so that a novice can win.
It was created so that folks who want to owner/handle their dogs get a fair
shot. There are TONS of ameteurs that do as good, or better, job than many of
those that call themselves professional. Don't believe me?? Just go to an all
breed show and watch the Senior Junior Showmanship classes. Most of those kids
out do the professionals on a regular basis - and with less dog!!
Other than GSDs and a few other select breeds, most dogs are still owner
handled. Many breeds have their quality animals, not in open but in bred by.

Years ago, back in my skinnier days, I showed Arabs professionally for the
largest Arab farm on the east coast. We travelled all over the country just
running the show circuit [you think dog shows are a hassle try moving EIGHTEEN
horses, tack, carts, supplies, feed, and people!!] The owner and his wife
would show up and ride in the AOTR classes [Ameteur Owner To Ride]. We did all
the work, they had all the fun. At least the ameteurs at the dog shows do
their own grooming!! LOL
