One of the great things when you go to Germany is watching the involvement
of amateurs and families at The Sieger Show. They truly enjoy the dogs and
sport. It is an event with large entries and every dog is recognized. The
amateur fut/mat is a great start in involving less experienced handlers.
Hopefully, those who entered and showed took this in the right spirit and
light. The venue is meant to be a positive experience for owners, handlers,
and dogs. For the most part, it seems like this was accomplished at the
first trial.
I give the parent club credit for trying to garner more interest in our
breed. The sport of dog showing has seen dwindling entries- perhaps this
forum will gain interest of people in all age groups. It is up to many of
us to not use this venue in a competitive light; good judgment will need to
prevail when someone starts to think how they can "beat the system." If a
junior is truly a non pro, wonderful. Someone like myself needs to use good
judgment, I do not handle dogs anymore but entering this venue would be
unprofessional and bad for the intention of this new class.
I think the new class is wonderful. 1 dog or 80. Take pride in helping to
promote our sport. Kudo's to the owners, handlers, and judges. JMO. Linda
