THIS is the way of the future for our Specialty shows as far as I'm concerned. CLUSTERS of Specialties so we can quit driving up and down the States for smaller ones 2 and 3 weeks apart that barely pull a major or drop the major! All Breed Clubs have known this for years!! <G> A lot of work.......but when you are done......you are DONE for that year. Same with those entering.......ONE weekend instead of two!! A BIG weekend....but ONE weekend ......and one trip. ( i.e., gas, motels, miles, handlers motels.....etc. ) GOOD LUCK with the shows!! As a club we had to decide what direction to take, we were loosing money at our shows and the entries were getting smaller each year. So one option was to have our shows with a local All Breed Club. It works great if the All Breed Club is open to suggestions of judges and size of rings, but that is not always guaranteed. Then we found out about being able to have an additional show from the Parent Club. We immediately inquired and came up with having 3 shows in two days. There are pros and cons, but we are thrilled with having a 5 point show and for our club, this is a great opportunity where we still have the control of judges, ring size and location of the show. Hopefully more Regional Clubs will take advantage of this in the future. Chris Chris S. (Jolley) Kimerer www.tanbarkgsd.com Ch. Tanbark's 2MuchBling Joelle Aramist OFA H/E Ch. Many of us have more than a few Champions that have won in both rings....and many have a title on both sides of their names.....but still just A FEW of them qualify for The Parade of Greats and I think that is fine. The qualifications are very specific and are listed in the Policy And Procedure manual. Easy enough to look up.... and work towards....and that is a good thing I think. A higher goal to work for. What I am not getting in any of this is exactly WHAT the Parent Club itself is doing wrong to everyone that makes these comments about excluding and not reaching out to dogs that are exhibited in the All Breed ring? I know of NO system where that resume is checked before entering the National?? The National Brochure and Premium List goes out to every single member of the Parent Club. There is absolutely NOTHING that prevents anyone ( even NON Members ) from entering the National competition in any and every venue that one chooses.... IF one chooses. The Parade Of Greats is a showcase for those that have achieved some of the requirements of a higher level of Conformation or Performance competition and titles within the National competition....with the exception of a few like R.O.M. and SchH111...etc. For this showcase.....the titles are either there.......or they are not. No one checks to see which venue the dog is shown in! Also I thought the Parent Club is also allowing many Clubs to have a Regional Specialty Show in conjunction with their own shows.....if a Club chooses to apply?? (See below and read slowly.) Kudos Gene. I too believe that GSDs should be able to compete in BOTH rings. What a refreshing idea: Showing dogs is about the dogs, NOT AN ELITE GROUP OF PEOPLE. Clap, clap, take a bow!! Penny and The Farm Dog ************************************************************* Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: All animals are equal I agree with Sally on this issue. With some of the responses to her I can see why the parent club is having problems increasing its membership. The GSDCA is for all German Shepherds in conformation, obedience, rally, herding, tracking and agility. Many of these have obtained multiple titles and some of them were at All Breed Shows. We, at Falkrigia Shepherds, have finished more than twenty Champions in both the Specialty and All Breed rings plus over 40 performance titles. One from our Breeding was High in Trial at the 1992 National - a run off against an OTCH- for his 1st Leg. In my opinion all German Shepherds should be able to compete in both the Specialty and All Breed Ring. I realize that many in the breed would never lower themselves to show in an All Breed Ring. Until the parent club starts reaching out to those who choose to show their German Shepherds in the All Breed Ring our membership will continue to evaporate. Look around at a Specialty Show sometime at the age of those who are competing. The vast majority are Medicare age. The parent club needs to exert more effort in supporting Regional Clubs. Many of these clubs do Supporting Entries for their local All Breed Clubs and in turn receive help when they have a Specialty Show. Our Augusta German Shepherd Dog Club has All Breed Obedience and Rally at our Specialty Shows and Augusta All Breed Club Members volunteer as Ring Stewards, and in other areas. We must remember that our National is ALL ABOUT THE DOGS and not a Social Event for the elite of the breed. With this in mind we should start selecting sites that best fit the needs of the dogs - Perry, GA, Purina in St Louis and Denver for example. This is my opinion after 20 years in the Breed.
