Just wanted to say that I brought my pup home on Alaska last year and it was
$100.00. She was a small pup but, that was the rate as long as I was flying
with her.

Geeeez Ed......you cannot possibly be talking about Alaska Airlines NOW!!??
IF that were the case we would ALL fly our dogs to the National and the
shows...... <G>
Used to be that way and that cheap with quite a few airlines........but now
they don't fly a dog as excess baggage anymore. They charge as much or more
than it costs to fly YOU! Main hub for Alaska airlines is Seattle so almost
all flights go there first.....then they are distributed. Good luck with a #
500 crate.......
That being said.....Vets tell us flying a dog or bitch is easier on them than
hours and hours of driving. We also learned that a dog ( male ) that is
crated for hours and days of driving is often temporarily left with no sperm
that is motile.... The good news is they are fine within a day or two
afterwards though. <G>

SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Alaska Airlines
Alaska is what I tried to use during the time many years ago when I flew my
Boss son to dog shows, problem is they don't fly non-stop to most of the places
I needed to fly to! with Alaska you show up at the airport to the passenger
counter, you check your dog in right there, you need to get there no later than
one hour to flight time and no earlier than two hours to flight time... no
showing up at Air cargo, which is sometimes miles from the passenger terminal
and God only knows why the hell they want the dog there three hours early! I
may never finish another dog ( no surprise there) ... I have flip/flopped
again, as good as Alaska is, I'll pass! Ed

Where do you fly dogs for $100.00? When we considered taking Kierk to the
National, it was $600.00 each way. We had to have him there three hours before
the flight, and that would mean about 12 hours in a crate, with the noise,
confusion, and handling.
I would never fly a dog again. Also, I did sue the airlines for causing a dog
to go deaf.It was a top obedience shepherd. They left her on the runway with
the jet engines.
I also sue Alaska airlines for a client who was injured in the restroom. It was
Chuck Norris' makup and hair dresser. We won at trial.
But, that is just me.

I know they fly dogs, question is do they fly GSDs, they advertise that the
largest crate size that they will allow on their planes is a '500' .... my
thought is , is it easier on the dog to fly in a crate for a 90 minute flight
or ride in a crate in a van for 10 hours? The cost is only 100 bucks each
way.... considering changing my position of flying dogs to a show, any thoughts
would be appreciated.... GO CUBS! FB
