shared by Peggy http://www.alabamacaninecoalition.org/ There's a new game in Alabama...The Alabama Canine Coalition...and it's about time! This has been in the back of my mind ever since Linda Chance got one started over in Mississippi. I just have not had time to sit down and put something together. Now it's being done. Or they're trying, anyway. This is being spearheaded by members of the Birmingham Kennel Club and I have already talked to their webmaster. Their mission statement: "The Alabama Canine Coalition will be an alliance of Alabama's dog clubs, conformation, hunting, working, obedience, training, rescue and others, that have combined their voices and resources in order to ensure that that the rights of dog owners throughout the state are protected against unfair legislation and discrimination. We will preserve our freedoms through the use of education, communication and lobbying." This is something I can and will support and I urge everyone else to do the same. If we don't band together to protect our rights and get proactive about it, it's going to be too late. We already have an organization in this state that seems to be mostly animal rights. And right now, that is the only voice that is being heard in Montgomery. We HAVE to change that. They are just now in the process of getting incorporated so becoming a member is still in the future. But as soon as they get that done, I intend to be one of the first to pay my membership dues. In the meantime, please go to their website and register for their forums. That will give them an email database so they can send out alerts and announcements. I have already done so. They have had some help from the GA Canine Coalition so you can see that website and see what they're aiming for: http://www.georgiacaninecoalition.org/ We need to help them as much as possible. Please send this email to any list or group or individual you can think of that owns a pet or has anything to do with animals. If your local government tries to pass ordinances pertaining to your rights to own animals or how you can keep those animals, please send an email to the ACC. There is contact info on the home page. We simply must band together and get this organization off the ground. I have called I don't know how many local government offices concerning proposed ordinances and while they listen, I am only one person. This coalition would make it impossible for them to ignore our concerns if we can get enough people to join it. So I beg you, please join the Alabama Canine Coalition. Please urge your family and friends to do so, too. And your vet. And your kennel club or rescue group members. We need to make this a strong organization so Montgomery will listen.
