I would like to put a disclaimer on this. First...we are NOT 'great'...<G>
and .because the airlines
are changing all the time.... I sure cannot even guess what it will be like
next year.
There are lots of flights coming into Reno and Las Vegas all the time
because they are the big
gambling Mecca's of the U.S....but these are the smaller aircraft in general
from tons of connecting
flights. There are lots of Hotels. Most are high rise Casinos in the
town.
Reno does host one of the big Championship Rodeo's...and an All Breed dog
show at the facilities.
We live between Sacramento, Ca. and Reno, Nevada. Closer to Sacramento
actually. There was
a time when we used Reno airport as much or more than Sacramento....but that
is no longer the case.
As I understand it you still can get into Reno with a # 400 crate....but
even that is difficult depending
on where you are coming in from, and which airline. In the last few years
I have been unable to get
ANY dog in or out of Reno? But I have not been looking for a main hub
destination in these cases.
IF you are coming in from an airline's main hub....it should work a lot
better....i.e. Chicago, Atlanta,
LAX Houston, Denver, Newark, etc. In general...it will be tougher to fly
into with a dog than some of
our West Coast National locations in the past like Salt Lake City, Denver,
Seattle, LAX....etc. These
are all main hubs or secondary main hubs for the airlines that still do
take dogs.
Reno and Sacramento are not.
Sacramento is not that far.....about 2 1/2 hours. As long as the weather
is great, Sacramento should
be no problem and I think the date is pretty early for that reason.
San Francisco may be your best option for flying in from some areas....but
it's a longer drive. About
3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Last weekend I was honored to have breakfast with the great Carolyn and
Frank Martello.
Carolyn told me that none of the planes that go to Reno will take a large
crate. She said we would have to fly into Sacramento, so it would be a bit
of a drive. Still, the location should be good enough to make up for it.
Another concern she mentioned, and one we might have to be ready for, is
that at that time, they often close the pass because of snow, and we might
not be able to drive from Sacramento to Reno.
I have to assume the board considered these problems, but since it is over a
year and a half away, we can all address them. Let's keep the discussion
open so we can all prepare for any possibility.
Also, after watching my Patriot son last weekend, I think he might be ready
for American Bred at the Reno National. Talk about slow maturing!
