The best treatment for fistulas is cyclosporine which is costly but should not cost $100 weekly. There is a generic type now that is the same and should bring costs to around $100-150 monthly. It generally takes anywhere from 6 months to a year to get them in check, and then it could take another 6 months to a year of treating with tacrimulus cream to ensure they have been dealt with. The cream is a little over $50 a tube but 1 tube should last 2-3 months. Some vets will treat with antibiotics and steroids.........they are a temporary fix but will not be a cure all. Would a German Shepherd rescue take the dog in this condition? The family can't decide how to proceed.
