BOSS got Lymes AND Ehrlichiosis while on Frontline Plus.
Advantix never did work for any of them.
After that happened with Boss we started using the Preventic Tick Collars and
the Ovitrol tick
collars and that helped more than anything. It was the only thing that worked
with a couple of them.
The odd thing is some dogs seem more "attractive" to ticks......just like
people with mosquitos or
bees. Some dogs don't seem to have much of a problem with ticks from what
we see.
We live in the foothills and the deer are always moving across our
property...... it's a problem.

Yes, that is the problem. We have ticks. Lots and lots of ticks. (Thanks
to our deer friends.) My dogs are on Frontline Plus which kills the ticks
*after* they have attached to the dogs. Several of my dogs have tested
positive for Ehrlichiosis.

I recently ordered Preventic Tick collars. The manufacturer claims that the
collar will help guard against tick disease by preventing the ticks from
attaching in the first place. The active ingredient paralyzes the ticks mouth
parts so that the tick can not attach. I've read that the collar works best in
conjunction with Frontline, Advantix or similar products. The collar will not
kill fleas.

I know a lot of people out there have terrible tick problems too, so I'll let
the List know if the collar works on my dogs. Man, I HATE these nasty
buggers!!!

Below it the reply I received from the company. I just don't see how a
product can help if it bites the dog before it dies! When I found them,
  they were firmly attached.
Thanks for help some have written me about. I will probably try some of
  these ideas.

**I actually vaccinated my dogs against lymes disease this year, I didn't
even know they had the vaccine. Thought I would give it a go! We have lots
of ticks out where I live in BC.
