Subject: AKC judge in bed with HSUS et al

Subject: Ted Paul and HB2470  (Oregon) 

This last Monday, I attended the hearing at the  State Capitol in 
Salem, Oregon, on HB2470, the so-called "Puppy Mill"  bill. This bill 
will restrict "hobby breeders" that have more than 10  dogs to have 
very strict regulations regarding a separate kennel  building, and to 
limit anyone to a maximum of 25 intact breeding dogs.  There is also 
a limit to 3 litters a year, or 20 puppies  maximum. 

Oregon already has some of the strictest laws on the  book regarding 
dogs, but little has been done to enforce  them. 

The hearing was well attended, enough to fill the over  flow room to 
capacity. It appeared to be a little more attended by the  "for" 
than "against" although I will say that the Shetland Sheepdog  breed 
was extremely well represented ;o) 

The first  four called up to present their testimony were the 
foundation for the  "for" group. This group consisted of Scott 
Beckstead, HSUS State  Director for Oregon, Sharon Harmon, Director 
for Oregon Humane Society,  Judy Brant, Washington County prosecutor, 
and TED PAUL, AN AKC  JUDGE! 

Ted Paul has judged the CCA National Specialty  multiple times and is 
approved to judge collies, shelties and both  breeds of corgis. I was 
simply astonished to see him speak FOR HB2470.  He spent most of his 
testimony spouting his credentials of being an AKC  judge and having 
judged at many prestigious events, such as Westminster  and the CCA 
several times. His testimony, unfortunately, lent a lot  of 
credibility to those for HB2470 as he is a very charismatic  speaker. 

It broke my heart to have one of ours turn against  us. He was 
definitely "in league" with the other three -  shoulder-to- 
shoulder 
with the HSUS. 

I, for  one, will not support him with an entry again. I will not 
steward for  him either. It made me want to put my copy of Mr. Paul's 
book - The  Christmas Collie - in the dog poop pail.
