Our by-laws said something to the effect that the club was chartered to hold
conformation shows and obedience trials. AKC required us to change the by-laws
to read something like conformation shows and 'any performance events approved
by AKC.' Not the exact words but opened us up to cover Agility. Later when we
did Rally [it could have been the other way around - Rally first then Agility]
we were already in compliance.
AKC..... go figure...........

Delaware Valley didn't have to change by laws to hold Rally (or Agility come to
think of it). In fact, we got permission for a Herding "match" too, even
permission to hold it (slightly) outside of our area, but the fees would have
been exorbitant and we would have lost our collective shirts, so after a cost
analysis we didn't pursue it.
We did originally have to hold an Agility match, but jumped on the Rally
bandwagon early, so no match needed.
What we did have to do in every instance, was furnish the AKC w/ a membership
list indicating those members interested in the "new-for-us" venues whenever we
wanted to apply for something new.
