Ditto. I had an incident years ago where my two bitches played and one had
her teeth caught in the other one's leather collar. During her attempt to
get free the collar was twisted and almost choked the other one to death. I
could not free them as hard as I tried, then ran into the house to get a
knife, slid the blade in and cut the collar that way. Thank God it was a
leather collar or she would not have made it. NO COLLARS for my dogs since
then. But all are chipped.

While I agree most of the AKC RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNER PET PROMISE contains
statements that I follow, the one promise, "I will make certain that my dog
is identified with both a collar tag and a microchip and I will adhere to
local leash laws." would prevent me from signing the pledge. I always
observe the leash laws, all the Hooligans are chipped and on lead when not
in my enclosed yard, I DO NOT allow any of them to wear any type of collar
except when they're on lead. In my opinion it's too dangerous - over the
years I've known too many dogs killed by accidents involving their collars
(both flat and chain).

stuff we all do every day.
Also there's nothing about a collar with tags, other than that the dog
should have identification. Mine wore a simple chain collar when he got
his, as he was microchipped.
