I would think it would make more sense to first get rid of all of the varieties
-
you would eliminate a bunch of excess dogs in the groups.
Just keep adding groups and everyone will be able to win.
That said, some of the current alignment makes little sense.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] AKC Group Realignment
Those of you who belong to AKC Member Clubs and therefore have a Delegate
should be paying attention to the Group Realignment proposal, which, I
understand, is to be voted on in September.
The realignment can't take place without Delegate approval.
I've been told that at the June meeting, a Delegate stood up and urged the
delegate body to vote for the proposal, because the scheme has been devised
by the "best and brightest minds in the dog world." (I could argue that, I
think, ha ha).......
How do y'all feel about this proposed realignment? Is your club
going
to instruct your delegate how to vote?
If you're in favor of realignment, can you say why?
I realize that most Shepherdists don't care about much outside the GSD
world...
and Shepherds will be left in the group they're in, at least for now.
Still, this is
a big change for our dog world. If you belong to an all breed club,
especially.
I'm hoping for some discussion here........the only place I've seen it
discussed is on the showchair list, and no one there thinks it is a good
idea....
Some things I think are true about the proposal are:
it will cost clubs more money, in many ways:
for one, judges who are not approved for every breed in a new group may be
able to judge the group at group level, but not all the breeds at breed
level...
second - the only benefits, as far as I can see, are that there will be a
place for some of the myriad new breeds we're taking in ...(registrations)
and the all-breed handlers will have more groups to show in, and charge
more.....
