Listers,
There were AOL delivery problems yesterday. As a result, there were MANY
AOL members whose List posts were bouncing, as a result of which many of
these addresses were set to Vacation / Nomail by the server. The
manifestation of this which you will see is greatly reduced volume on the
List, and what all of them are experiencing is a total absence of List mail.
Some of them have realized this, and have contacted the administration, but
many AOL subscribers don't yet realize why they are not getting List mail,
and it may take a few days for them to become aware that they need to take
action to restart their List posts. As is typically the case, this issue
did not affect all AOL members, but a significant number were affected. It
appears that some people on other services may have also been affected. The
issues were on the receiving side, having nothing directly to do with our
server, but our server reacts to the bouncing the only way it can - by
setting the bouncing addresses to Vacation / Nomail
So, if you have friends who are contacting you indicating they have stopped
getting List mail, please let them know about this issue. Odds are that the
problem with AOL and other nternet providers is now resolved, and if so,
they can restart their List post by sending an email to:
Showgsd-l-request
With the message: unset vacation
That will restart their mail
If anyone is having a problem getting their List mail back, or wants
instructions on how to read the List mail they may have missed on the
Archives, please contact us directly.
