Since apparently the post from July 10, 2005 got lost in the shuffle, I am
reposting it now. The point was, and is, that responsible posts concerning
issues of importance to the Fancy, including the election, are permitted on the
List. While the campaign thread was shut down briefly back in May or June
because it had become excessively nasty and personal, it was reopened by the
July 10 email. So long at the discussions are conducted civilly, the topic is
perfectly permissible.
Showgsd-l was created to be a communication tool, and has been maintained
throughout the years, specifically because it has evolved into an excellent
forum for discussion of issues of importance to the Fancy. Clearly there are
very important issues on the minds of GSDCA members, and they are issues that
will express themselves either out in the open, on the List and elsewhere, or
be whispered about in corners, fed by rumors, never good, or healthy, or
supportive of constructive decision-making.
To repeat, the Administration DOES allow posts regarding the upcoming election.

If there is incorrect information passed to the membership via the List, it is
all that much more important that the List do what it can to assist in being a
vehicle for conveying CORRECT information to the membership. That has always
been one of the most valuable functions of the List, and that
remains true now, perhaps more true than ever. Accordingly, we are committed
to doing everything possible to be useful in facilitating the conveyance to the
membership of correct information and in providing a platform for constructive
discussion of issues of importance to the Fancy, as they relate to the upcoming
election.
Our rules say:
- Personal attacks, hostile, accusatory posts, in word or in tone, are
not allowed.
- Forwarding, reproduction or use in any manner of any material which
appears on Showgsd-l without the express permission of all parties to the post
and the List management is expressly forbidden.
- No crossposts. Do not send posts to Showgsd-l and other mailing
lists in the same email, and do not send to Showgsd-l in any form material from
on other lists, without the express permission of the Showgsd management.
So long as the posts regarding the election, the issues, the GSDCA and its
Board and the candidates are civil and responsible, not hostile or accusatory,
do not entail personal attacks or violate the rules against forwards,
reproduction and crossposts, please feel free to utilize Showgsd-l to convey
correct information to the membership regarding these very important issues and
concerns. This is not intended to apply just to you, but to all List members
who have something to say on these topics, whether candidates or not.
As the Showgsd-l Mission Statement says, the purpose of Showgsd-l is:
"To further and to promote the AKC/CKC/GSDCA/GSDCC style of conformation
showing and breeding of German Shepherd Dogs;
To promote communication among the fancy and the Parent Clubs (German Shepherd
Dog Club of America and German Shepherd Dog Club of Canada);
To share health, grooming, showing and breeding information;
To encourage the quick dissemination of information and the dispelling of
rumors within the fancy;
To encourage ethical breeding of the German Shepherd Dog;
To encourage participation in the parent clubs;
To serve as a resource for the North American fancy.
Showgsd-l is dedicated to Breed Rescue, Education, and Communication"

Christine - I must have missed this as well, as I didn't know we were able to
discuss the upcoming election on the list. I just turned my petitions in to
Sharon Albright last week - so, I'm officially a candidate for the GSDCA Board
of Directors. I am not "campaigning" but did want to let fellow listers know
that I am available to answer any questions they might have about my candidancy
- my backround, my life and work experience that I would bring to the board,
and my longtime involvement with and interest in the purebred dog and the
German Shepherd in particular.
