puppies is selling them to the public, I know this is NOT the attitude and

more pups then I sell to folks I know ! I'm generally polite but I don't
care that much for the general public! I know it's Christmas lol FB

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: A new old subject/ puppies
It depends.
I breed a litter for me and on the occasions where puppies were here around
the Holidays, people had been waiting, had GSDs before etc. etc. we had a
relationship prior AND I held the puppies until after all of the Holiday
chaos ended. Not that I worried about unsound puppies, with visitors and
chaos that's not a great time to housebreak and with all of the things a
puppy could get into (lights, trees, ornaments, poisonous plants, too many
goodies), well.... I hold onto them until the company goes home.
I am not interested in the strictly "Christmas buyers". My phone hasn't
stopped ringing for a month now, NO I don't have puppies, chose to skip a
lovely gal I want to breed and spend Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years with my
family (because I won't leave a very pregnant mom or puppies under two weeks
old).
The Christmas calls I get are usually how much? what color? how much do the
parents weigh? and, sorry, that's not my kind of client.

I would sell a puppy to a family that wanted a German Shepherd Dog puppy as
part of their Christmas!
We don't have puppies available this time of year simply because I don't want
to take the time and work
with a litter of puppies during the Holidays. Too much going on for
me....and it's WINTER!
We had 11 great puppies last year through an El Nino winter......I am now in
're-hab'. <G>
I "hear" part of the reason some breeders will not sell a puppy for a
Christmas present is because they
believe all the turmoil and busyness of company over Christmas is too much
for the puppy. I believe most
families only have that turmoil Christmas day....and then everyone goes
home... <G>....and everything goes
back to normal for time with the puppy. Also, kids home from school for
that week would be great.
But even so... I personally think that would be great for a puppy to have a
whole bunch of family enjoying
the new pup. But that's just me. I just think a sound puppy would love
all the attention and activity. <G>
I knew from the time I was 11 or 12 years old that I wanted a German Shepherd
Dog more than anything....
( well...except maybe a horse....) <G> and it would have made my life close
to perfect to have had a GSD
puppy as a Christmas gift. There would have been NO ISSUE with too much
activity! My entire being
would have been totally devoted to that puppy. In a way I think what Ed is
saying...and it would have been
that way for me personally as a kid ....a GSD Puppy for Christmas would have
been an answer to prayer.

] A new old subject
A few years ago on this list the subject of selling a puppy for a Christmas
gift was discussed and if my memory is correct most folks were against it!
And yes just like almost everything else I disagree with the majority and I
am strongly in favor of it! Growing up poor like many families I didn't get
too many presents and having a birthday close to Christmas my gifts were
counted as both! Christmas 1970 my parents gave me a black AKC Great Dame! My
favorite gift of all time ( had to put him down at 9 months cuz of hip
dysplasia but that's another story). Christmas is such a special time and not
because of receiving gifts but for showing folks how much they mean to you,
like the holy one the day is all about if you are of the Christian faith ( no
this is NOT a religious post) ... anytime and especially Christmas is a great
time for a loved one to give another loved one a puppy! I think gifts at
Christmas time mean more! ... my second favorite gift was Christmas 1995, my
wonderful wife gave me a 12 year old black Tennessee Walker... almost killed
me but that again is another story! Iza, Mary Anne and I all have the same
birthday! But I out weigh both of them! lol Merry Christmas FB
