As some of you know, my dogs are house dogs. I have placed an unsound dog with my daughter, who is a dog person and took care of him till he died from toxic gut a few years ago. Five summers ago, I made an outcross breeding, but type to type. At 8 weeks old, all pups appeared to be sound and were placed in loving, family homes. Around 8-10 months later, I got phone calls from 2 of the families--the puppies (both males) had bitten family members AND other people. BOTH families attended obedience classes (like I recommended) and 1 family hired 2 different trainers, to no avail. I saw both pups--they were total, raving spooks. I put them to sleep: I gave one family a refund and the other opted for another of my dogs, an easygoing solid black male. In addition, I spayed the dam of this litter and placed her too--her temperament was excellent. Needless to say, I never used that particular stud dog again. Boy, if there was EVER a reason NOT to outcross, this litter was it! Just to be sure, I contacted everybody else--all other dogs from this breeding were fine. Yikes. I WILL NOT KEEP A SPOOKY DOG.
