I agree 100% with this analogy - finally AKC has realized there are too many
shows and they have put a "STOP' on accepting any newly forming ALL BREED
CLUBS FROM BEING APPROVED FOR LISCENSED SHOWS AT THIS TIME, OR SO I
UNDERSTAND. HOWEVER, ON THE OTHER HAND THEY ARE STILL APPROVING
SPECIALITIES.

can't speak for the goldens but the aghans used to have only 2 sighthound
specialties a year in CA - however, they supported our gazillion ABs out
here and always drew majors. carolyn, let's go back to what you posted
yesterday - your were right - it's US! if anyone wants more proof, take a
look
at the "sighthound review."

Here in Calif. I believe that is part of the problem.
There seems to be an All Breed almost every weekend....and a Specialty
show through the show
season every couple of weeks spread up and down this big long State.
Literally a show every
weekend and it just spreads the entries too thin.
NO ONE has that much time and money to go to all of these shows if they
have any life at all.....

I've said this before....and will say it again. We would be smarter to
combine our many weekend
of shows with other Clubs. Either combine our Specialty shows with All
Breeds or our Specialty
shows with other Specialty shows to just take up one weekend for some of
these shows.

There is this thing called "ring sport" overseas (not so much here) and
Malinois do very well there.
GSDs would, too, but the mindset is to not bother.......... hasn't

I am going to piggyback on Peggy's commentary to bring attention (again)
to our lack of entries
at shows.
I attended the Northern New Jersey Specialty yesterday. Judge was Brenda
Newby, a very qualified
and capable judge. While these weekend is mainly about all breeds,
yesterday was a specialty day,
with every different breed holding their shows, sweepstakes, obedience,
etc. Outside ring, gorgeous
weather, great facility, plenty of free parking.
German Shepherd Dogs had the smallest entry. 5 males, 1 bitch, 1
special.
All the exhibitors there are facing the same economy we are. All of them
had to pay the same gas prices.
Many, in fact, LOTS of them, were using handlers.
Golden Retrievers were next to us (relatively) ....they were at least 100
Goldens, if not more. There were
tons of Afghans. The puppy classes in most breeds, just the puppy
classes, had more entries than the
total GSD entry. I feel terrible for the club, who had to incur all the
expenses for such a dismaying return.
So, whats the problem?
