Have you been visiting the OFA web site and stealing their ideas? LOL
I have to say, I personally like your idea. Yet,it is quite similar to that of
judging and getting a grade on hips and elbows. ;o)
One would have to admit it would be an interesting view of judging to say the
least. One thing folks couldn't say is, so and so forth judge didn't do this or
that. No one could really be single out. Just find what qualities each judge
favors differently or appreciates more than others. It is one of them things
that makes you go........hmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!
I'd like to hear more on this idea as well.

With all the discussion about the # of Selects, it brought to mind an idea
i've thought of for quite a while for judging our Specials class at the
National. Most probably, this has thought about before but let me float the
idea and see what the "List" thinks:
1. Specials Judging: A Panel of Three Judges voted upon by the Membership.
2. Each Judge is given a definitive WEIGHTED scorecard(Example only, this i'm
sure could be improved upon)that defines the different attributes of the GSD as
per the Std, Judges fill out the scorecard independently)
Example Only:
Attribute Weighting Score 1-10
Sidegait 9
Tempermant 10
Coming and Going 9
Eye Color 8
Coat 8
Feet 8
etc
3. Animals with the highest scorecard are GV and GVX
4. Animals are rated select based on their score
5. All Animals over a certain score are given select.
6. Scorecards are provided to owners at the end of the show.
These are advantages and disadvantags i can think of, i'm sure the list will
provide a bunch of others:
Advantages:
Get cross-section of Opinion
Owners and Breeders have 3 Judge opinion on each dog in a standard format
based upon the GSD standard. Could be a valuable learning tool, great database
for the future.
More judges get to judge the National(assuming this is a good thing)
Will get more participation at National as people will not be influenced by
PERCIEVED politics or likes or dislikes of one judge only or taking care of
"friends" concern.
Disadvantages:
Specials Class will take more time(i believe with computer technology today,
this could be made quite efficient)
Don't know if this is within AKC rules and guidlines
This is a concept only, a lot of work would have to be put in in defining the
scorecard to "match" the priorities of the standard ,also investigation of how
the technology can be put to best use to maximize efficiency.
