I hate to disallusion folks... but you REALLY have to have been living in a
lead cave to NOT know where "petshop" puppies come from! Come on... 60
Minutes, 20/20, CNN, FoxNews, Animal Planet and lord knows how many local
channels have ALL done stories on the horrors of petshop puppies.
What I hear from people that bought from a pet store is they were "saving"
the puppy from the place. They KNOW where it came from and they felt "sorry"
for the puppy and so "saved" it by buying it. It irritates the hell out of
me that people are so stupid. All their "saving" is doing is keeping the pet
store in business.
Of course, there are the people I have talked to that went to a pet store
because they were turned off by the "hobby" breeders they went to. Not too
many people are willing to go through the equivalent of an FBI background
check to buy a dog. That is of course the breeder's right to do so, just
don't be surprised if people don't want to put up with it.

Come On!!! Puppymills exist because Joh Q Public is uninformed! MAybe local
breed clubs need to place articles in the local papers, buy local tv/radio
advertising INFORMING the public about the crap in petstores and about the
crap that is any MANY MANY MANY back yards!! I can't tell u how many ads I
see for GSD's, dogs in general, and when u call them (I HAVE) to ask
questions, u probably know more than they do about their dogs!
I bought my first GSD in 1986, didn't know squat about them. AKC registered
is all I knew. I educated myself about them and called to ask where and who
I could get a quality GSD from. Went to all breed shows in my area, fell in
love with those "low in the hips" dogs, and here I am.
EDUCATION is key, jut like w/ any other fancy, hobby, profession, whatever.
Fight the fight w/ education as well, not just trying to save every shelter
dog in the country(don't get me wrong , that is important to!!)
