Almost all good breeders, to a person, know how to screen potential German
Shepherd Dog owners, just as Glen does..... always asking certain questions and
applying rigid standards and criteria before placing a precious puppy.
Conscientious breeders are very alert to folks who have less than honorable
and/or healthy and happy goals for a new puppy.
The person described by Glen is certainly a more obvious "reject" as a German
Shepherd Dog owner, or an owner of any other breed, for that matter.
My sainted Irish grandmother once told me this.......
"Never assemble a semi-hidden or written "Black List" with people's names on
it."
(No pun intended, just because the woman was looking for a black puppy).
Incidentally, my sainted Irish grandfather also had serious ideas to share.
So far I have avoided retelling or quoting my grandfather's wit and wisdom.
His language was often "salty" and forceful.
He proudly wore the badge of a fireman in the city of Milwaukee.
(Yes, he was an engineer on a horse drawn engine. He was once put on a
temporary suspension for a short while for "salty" language and fighting in the
Fire House............. You have all heard of an Irish temper?
John Thomas Canty had one. My grandmother, when remarking on his temper,
called him a man with a "sudden" temperament.)

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] screening puppy buyers
First of all -------I'd like to say that I am a newbie to breeding. I have
used my male as a stud dog a few times and have just completed selling the last
pup from my first litter.
I bred what I consider a good breeding. It is a line breeding back to
Color Guard.
I just joined the GSDCA last week.
I have had GSD for a long time and I have been showing them in confirmation
on a limited basis for 8 years now.
My question is this; Is there a bad puppy buyer list some where. I had
several phone calls from people that didn't meet my standards for buying one of
my pups for various reasons. They were looking for the meanest biggest GSD they
could find, didn't have a fenced yard and only wanted to spend $100.
The one that comes to mind called and wanted a pet Black Female. (At the
time I had 1) She said that she likes Black shepherds and that she had a pet
black male and pet black female and that the female had died. She started
talking about the litters she had bred with them.
When I told her that a pet quality pup had to be Nuetered she became
irrate and ask "well where are all the pet quality dogs going to come from if
only show dogs are bred". I tried to explain to her that even the best blood
lines have both pet and show quality and usually more pets. She got very mad
and cursed at me and hung up.
I let all the GSD breeders that have blacks that I know within a 100 miles
about this women. I'm sure she found some scabby breeder to sell her a bitch.
What I am trying to ask is --------Is there a place to post these people's
names to warn all the legit breeders????????
